Classes

​​PRE/PRIMARY HIGHLAND (AGES 2 1/2-7)
Students will learn the basic positions of the arms and feet along with basic movements needed for the first levels of their exams. They will also learn the dances needed for the primary level (16 Pas de Basques , Pas de Basques and Highcuts, Fling, Sword) of competitions followed by a choreographed dance including the steps and dances they have learned for the recital.

BEGINNER HIGHLAND (AGES 7 & UP NO EXPERIENCE-1 YEAR) 
Students will learn the basic positions of the arms, feet and head. They will learn basic and technical movements need for their exams and 7 set highland dances needed for the beginner level of competitions. The dances include The Fling, Sword, Seann Triubhas, Strathspey and Highland Reel, Half Tulloch, Lilt and Flora. A choreography may also be taught for the recital to accompany the set highland dances learned.

NOVICE HIGHLAND (AGES 7 & UP)
Students must be at the Novice Competition or Exam level. Students will continue to learn new dances for the next levels of their exams and will continue to work on technique required for the set dances learned in the beginner level. A choreography may also be taught for the recital to accompany the set highland dances learned.

INTERMEDIATE HIGHLAND (AGES 7 & UP) 
Students must be at the Intermediate Competition or Exam level. Students will learn new dances needed for the Intermediate level, such as The Highland Laddie, Barracks Johnnie, The Irish Jig, The Sailors Hornpipe, Strathspey and Half Tulloch and the Hullichan. Students will also start learning additional steps for the dance learned and perfected in the Beginner and Novice Levels as they are required to do long step dances in Intermediate to prepare them for the Premier Championship level. Technique is a huge concentration at this level. A choreography may also be taught for the recital to accompany the set highland dances learned.

PREMIER HIGHLAND (AGES 7 & UP)
Students must be at the Premier Competition or Exam level. Students will continue concentrating on technique on all of the dances learned and perfected in the Intermediate level along with learning new dances and steps needed for the premier level. New dances learned at this level are The Blue Bonnets, Village Maid, Scotch Measure, Earl of Errol and Tribute to J.L. MacKenzie. New steps will be learned for the set Highland dances depending on the set Championship steps each year. Championship steps will be taught and perfect to all dancers in this level if they are a competitive championship dancer or only participate in exams and or shows. A choreography may also be taught for the recital or for competitions to accompany the set highland dances learned.
 


ADULT HIGHLAND (AGES 17& UP)
Students may be at the beginner level or may have some dance experience. Students will learn the positions of the feet, arms and head along with the set highland dances required for exams and competitions. Students are not required to participate in exams and competitions at this level however may if they choose to. A choreography will be taught for the recital to accompany the set dances if the student decides to participate. This class is great for parents wishing to learn the same dance as their child to help them practice at home and perfect technique. It is also great excersize and tons of fun!

MASTER HIGHLAND (AGES 7 & UP)
This class is geared towards competitive students of all levels. Students will work on strength and endurance and learn how to train their muscles and bodies to help them hold positions and control their entire body while dancing. It is suggested that all competitive students from the Beginner level – Premier level participate in this class. Although this class is geared towards the competitive dancer it is not limited to only competitive dancers. All dancers will benefit from this class.

ACRO (AGES 8 & UP)

This class is open to beginner and Novice level students. Acro combines balancing and gymnastics floor work to create a beautiful combination of strength and control. Students will learn stretch, conditioning, balance work, tricks across the room and a routine for the recital.

BALLET/LYRICAL (AGES 9 & UP)
Students must have at least 2 years of related dance experience. Ballet is the foundation of all styles of dance. We teach proper placement and improve turnout, posture, balance and control. Lyrical is storytelling and dancing from inside out. Techniques from both ballet and jazz are used along with expression. In weekly class students will concentrate on barre work, center floor work, strength and flexibility, across the floor movements and combinations focusing on technique, flow and movement. Students will learn a choreographed routine(s) for the recital.

PRIMARY/BEGINNER COMBO CLASS-BALLET, TAP, JAZZ, HIP HOP (AGES & UP)
This class is for Primary and Beginner level students who would like to explore different styles of dance. In this class we will spend 15 mins on each style of dance each week. Students will learn proper placement and improve turnout and posture with ballet, improve musicality, timing and technique with tap. They will learn the latest moves of energetic Jazz and Hip hop set to current music. This will be an all round technical, energetic and fun class while helping each dancer to hit isolation and improve coordination. Students will learn a choreographed routine(s) for the recital.

MUSICAL THEATRE (AGES 7 & UP)
Musical Theater is a style of performing that includes all aspects of theater arts. Acting, singing and dancing are all combined in this fun, expressive class. Students will learn how to act, dance and lip sinc/sing out character rolls from many musicals while also enhancing their performance skills and confidence.

JAZZ (AGES 5 & UP)
Jazz is an expressive and energetic dance discipline that combines the latest moves with current music. This high energy class will consist of Jumps, turns, kicks, flexibility and much more. Highly stylized to funky – Jazz is ever evolving!This class will keep students fit and energetic while having fun hitting isolation and improving coordination. Students will learn a choreographed routine for the recital.


 

 

 

BALLET (AGES 2 1/2 & UP)
Ballet is the foundation of all styles of dance. We teach proper placement and improve turnout, posture, balance and control. In weekly class students will concentrate on barre work, center floor work, strength and flexibility, across the floor movements and combinations focusing on technique, flow and movement. Students will learn a choreographed routine for the recital.

TAP (AGES 5 & UP)
Students will learn and improve musicality, timing and technique with tap. They will learn the latest moves set to current music. This will be an all round technical, energetic and fun class while helping each dancer to hit isolation and improve coordination. Students will learn a choreographed routine for the recital

CONTEMPORARY (AGES 13 & UP)
Contemporary is a new style we offer. It deals in the movement of exploring your body and emotions to tell a story. We do floor work, jumps and still use some ballet technique. It will teach them how to us and understand their own bodies in a way only they can do. It will pull out the unique style of each individual dancer, helping them grow in the art form.

MASTER TECHNIQUE (Anyone taking Competition classes)
In this class students expand their ballet technique, flexibility and strength. They learn how to control their movements and they are pushed harder to succeed.

HIP HOP (AGES 5 & UP)

Hip Hop is a street style form of dance rooted from Jazz. Students will learn high energy freestyle movement and physical fitness. This class will keep students fit and energetic while having fun hitting isolation and improving coordination. Students will learn a choreographed routine for the recital.
